FO: top down sweatercoat

I was re-sewing the buttons onto this sweater when I realized I hadn’t blogged this one either! I finished this one a long time ago, sewed the buttons on rather shoddily (necessitating re-sewing them on!) and wore it a few times before we hit a warm spell. Judging by the weather today though, I might get a few more wears out of it!

(Sorry for the crappy lighting – taken at night!)

Top Down Sweatercoat
Pattern: my own design; hopefully forthcoming in the fall!
Needles: 8mm
Yarn: Cascade 220 Heathers in 2 colours, held doubled; 8 skeins total

This one is top-down, circular yoked. It went surprisingly fast considering the length, but the bulky gauge made for quick knitting! The front bands are short-rowed so that they’re wider in the skirt portion of the coat.

A better idea of the actual colour:

It’s raining and cool again today, so maybe I’ll wear it out! I need to get to Ikea to buy a new desk chair :) Any recommendations?

Other new knits on and off the needles…

Socks that Rock Mediumweight in “rose quartz”.

And I’ve got a new mini shawl pattern in the works!

Mmmmm, deep blue Handmaiden Casbah.

Newbie here; Delurking to say:
Great sweater coat pattern! Love it! Will keep an eye out for the written pattern some time in the future.

Love the deep blue Casbah also. Although, I’m more of a sock knitter rather than lace shawls. I sure appreciate the work involved in them, but just can’t bring myself to do one.

ooh, there’s a fantastic chair i’ve been eyeing at ikea…

it’s a wheeley base (black, standard plastic) with a bold merimekko-style pink/black/white/red print – dots & circles and lines…

i have no need for a wheeley chair, but i sure do want the thing. i wish they’d made the fabric available by itself!

ooh, link found here!

The sweater coat is gorgeous! I’m looking forward to the pattern’s release so I can make one for myself!

I was wondering where the sweatercoat had got to! It looks lovely, but I’m sorry you can still get use of it in late May; sounds like you have our regular Vancouver weather, while we have your sunshine. :o ( / :o )

That Casbah is gorgeous…

Can’t help you with the desk chair…my desk is my bed or my couch. :-)

Wow. I’m drooling over the deep blue. Even when I have things that color I can never make them look so good in the photos!

The sweater is great too. I wish I had something that warm today. It was a cold damp day!

Hmmmm – that lace shawl will fall in my “must-buy” category.. I never liked ruffles until I bought your pattern for the Just Enough Ruffles Scarf in a pretty magenta Malabrigo !!

Nice sweater! I’ve never knit a shawl before, but a mini one sounds enticing.

The coat is really pretty. Looks just about right for fall, so even though you’re not getting a lot of use out of it right now I bet you will after summer.

Very intrigued by the shawl sneak peek, can’t wait to see the rest.

The coat is so cute! The short-row bands are genius!

Desk chair? My advice is to not cheap out and don’t get distracted by style. I’ve had cute & cheap desk chairs that were hell! Spend a little and get something functional that keeps your back happy!

Love the lace on that sock swatch, and the color. You make such nice designs! That is a boss coat.

Hi Laura!
I just had to stop by to say you are well known all over the world! I am on vacation in Australia and in Melbourne today. Went to a yarn shop to get some Australian wool. In talking about knitting socks I mentioned your blog and book….the clerks all knew you!! They read your blog!! You are famous!! So I will have to learn to knit my Australian wool into socks from your book.
