fo: clasica coat

Annoyingly, despite feeling better yesterday and getting lots of rest and soup, I’m sicker today! I hope this gets out of my system soon, because this is getting old. And now that I’m living on my own, there’s no one to take care of me! I do believe that today I will “take care of me” by making some oatmeal raisin cookies.

Anyway, being at home as allowed me to do lots and lots of knitting. Mainly, this coat from the fall Interweave that I was knitting up as a shop sample for lettuce.

(Surprisingly difficult to photograph though!)

I used the yarn called for, Manos Clasica naturals, in a nice purple. This is the smallest size, which called for 12 skeins of yarn, but I only used 11 – and I still have enough left over to do the button loops and everything, which I haven’t gotten to yet.

It’s thick and definitely warm, with a HUGE hood! The texture pattern is interesting – you really can’t see it very well in the magazine, so when I started knitting I was a bit confused about how it was supposed to look. But it all worked out in the end, and it’s quite pretty and interesting.

A nice kick-off to autumn knitting, don’t you think? I’m so excited!

I love this sweater. I have some alternate yarn on order from my LYS because the clasica wasn’t in my budget. It would have been $340 for the yarn for my size. I think it should look just as great in the alternate. I’ll have to invest in clasica for a small project…like a scarf and mittens. :)

Great coat. One question, how sturdy is the “lace” pattern, especially on the shoulders? Get well soon and enjoy those cookies.

I too am sick and have gotten knitting done, I felt worse, then MUCH better the next day. I highly recommend tylenol and sleep if you can muster it. :D

The sweater is fabulous!

I had to actually look at the issue to remember what the sweater looked like in the magazine. It was definitely a slip under the radar sweater for me.
