Here’s a pic of the Lotech sweat from Chicknits, which I’ve been working on basically just in classes.
Just a front to go. I’m dropping the hood entirely, and I might not do the pockets – we’ll see about that. I might not even do the buttons. Why? Because I’m tired of this project. It is good for getting something done in lecture, though. I’m going to try and sew up what I’ve got this weekend, then finish that other front next week and do the button bands.
I got a bit done on Cozy last night at SnB -
Sorry about the blurriness, it’s the best one I took. I had stupidly forgotten the pattern, and the little chart I drew up from my mind looked ok but didn’t work out. But surprisingly, when I ripped back, I was able to figure out how the pattern was supposed to go. Now I don’t need to refer to anything! Excellent.
The red and black sweater is progressing, I think it’ll work out this time. Thanks for your suggestions, Sally – and you don’t need a blog to comment here! Not Cashmere has been unceremoniously shoved aside so I can finish the wool sweater before it gets warmer. I’m actually thinking about making another Retro-prep with my leftover assorted wools – different colours of highland wool, some patons. Blue and grey striped sweater? Maybe.

slow down
I’ve found that lately, I’m trying to race through my projects so I can start something new. I suppose it’s my way of not getting bored with one project at a time, but that seems to be misfiring as I’m rather bored with all my projects. I need to just slow down, and enjoy the process of knitting, rather than trying to finish a bazillion sweaters before winter’s over.
Enter Cozy, from Knitty.
I’m using JaggerSpun Wool Silk 4/8, in Steel. It’s 50% merino and 50% tussah silk, and is just sooo soft and smooth. I’ve done one repeat (after I charted the lace pattern) and I’m just going to take it slow. A meditation project.
Now I gotta get back to this – five pages (including graphs), due tomorrow, and I haven’t written a word. Eep.
not cashmere
To celebrate the completion of two projects, and reaching the halfway point of the LoTech (I’ve decided to continue on it even though I don’t know why I chose the particular size that I did), what do I do? Why, cast on another project, of course!
I’ve started the “Cashmere Pullover” from Weekend Knitting, designed by the lovely Teva Durham. Seeing as how I don’t have the money for a cashmere sweater of this magnitude (or any magnitude, really) I’m using Berroco Pronto Print from Elann. It’s going nice and quickly at 12 stitches per four inches, and it’s got a wicked cool construction. Might be a little bit to take on the subway, though. Maybe I should cast on for another pair of socks…but I’m slightly sick of socks at the moment (just slightly) so I suppose the boring, boring sleeve of the LoTech will come with me tomorrow.
I’ve just got the fronts to do on this project I was designing, but now I’m not feeling the love…something about the Highland Chunky just isn’t wanting to be the sweater I wanted. Also, I’m not all that crazy about the colour. So…I think that shall be frogged, and the yarn will just have to go back into the stash. Maybe just another random pullover or cardigan? I can’t decide.
grey and perfect
The Retro-Prep is done!
I really didn’t try to cut off my head, I just need something taller to put my camera on…
The Rachael!
And here’s a flat shot, for completeness – the other pictures are better for the true colour.
Retro Prep Pullover
Pattern: Interweave Knits, Fall 2002 (?)
Yarn: Elann Highland Wool, Oxford Grey, about 9 skeins
Needles: US 5 & 6 Denises
Started: January 26, 2005 – delayed due to broken needle for a bit
Finished: March 1, 2005
It fits perfectly! Love the shaping and the sleeves. I modified the neckline slightly, but otherwise I just followed the pattern. One side of the bottom hem was flipping up a bit today because I was impatient to wear it, and that side wasn’t completely dry this morning. It’s being pinned down now, for next time. I’ll definitely be making this again, probably in cotton.
Oh, and that necklace/lariat thing, it’s a crocheted chain out of Mango Moon sari silk. Love, love, love that stuff.
flames
Mmmm. Nice warm socks.
Lorna’s Laces socks
Yarn: about 1.25 skeins of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock, Flames colourway
Needles: Garnstudio bamboo circular, 2.5 mm
Pattern: basic sock pattern, with ribbing, on 68 stitches
Started: February 9, 2005
Finished: February 28, 2005
It took wayyy less than two skeins to make this pair of socks – I ran out on the first skein after the heel flap of the second sock! And they’re super soft and nice-feeling. There shall definitely be more Lorna’s Laces in my future (but not now – trying not to spend money).
Exception to the not spending money – I *finally* got a haircut, at Purple Hearts on Queen. It’s pretty snazzy, and was less than the hair guy I’ve been going to. I look weird in this picture (get the girl some lipstick) but oh well.
And there’s the Must Have in action!
new kid steps up
Ok, the new Magknits is up, and you what? It’s got some AWESOME patterns! I haven’t really liked much up until now (except Donna from the last issue) but nothin’ but a shirt by Alison is just perfect. And Cold Shoulder by the oh-so-talented Stefanie is fabulous.
This makes my Calmer want much stronger. So expensive to buy here – maybe online. After school ends.
