that smell in the air

It’s coming…the time when I change from wool sweaters to cotton ones!

Pattern: “Unisex Knock-Around Cashmere Pullover” from Weekend Knitting
Yarn: Berroco Pronto Print in “Cobble Hill”, about 13 skeins (pattern says 10 of yarn of the same yardage)
Needles: US 10.5 Denises
Started: March 2, 2005
Finished: March 20, 2005

It’s really quite comfy. See the collar, though? It looks cool laying flat, but it doesn’t really stand up or anything when it’s worn. Plus one side is pointier than the other and it kind of bugs me. So it’ll look more like this:

I picked up a zipper from Fabricland today. So we’ll see when I get around to putting it in the Lotech…meanwhile, here’s what I’m working on:

Cozy and the Corset Pullover. I think I’ll try to make some headway on the Corset Pullover – I’m lengthening it as well as compensating for the shrinkage factor. Could be interesting!

almost-FO Sunday

Well, I finished up the Not-Cashmere Pullover..

…as well as the Lotech sweat – you can’t really see, but there’s reverse st st front bands. I’ll pick up a zipper tomorrow and hopefully put it in, and then it’ll really be done.

Both are now in the washing machine and will be machine dried (at least partially) as well – modelled pictures tomorrow, I hope!

Now I can get to some new projects! I believe the Corset Pullover will be up next, as well as perhaps a t-shirt out of Elann Esprit for the stockinette project. I think I’ll work on Cozy, too.

seaming is believing

The Lotech sweat is allllmost done!

I’ve done up all the raglan seams, and I think I’ll do the sleeve and side seams tonight as well – then I need to do the front bands and the collar. I think I’m going to put in a zipper, and do a simple rolled collar.

Aaaaand, the red and black sweater is finally done!

Modelled shots tomorrow!

So now that two projects have been completed (or almost), I’m starting to think of shiny new projects. BUT, then I remind myself that I’ve still got other projects to do! So I’m going to aim to finish those first, before I start anything else. I kind of want to start a tank top or otherwise summery top, but that’s a whole season away – it’s not even spring yet! So I honestly don’t know what I’m going to be knitting next. Possibly a scrappy blue wrap, maybe nothin’ but a shirt…I really do want to use some Calmer for that. Maybe I ought to hit the 30% off sale at the Yarn Boutique!

That or order some from eBay…

hyperness

I’ve been awfully hyper today. And I haven’t taken anything, or even had a coffee, honest. :) Maybe it was saying I was going to finish an assignment tonight (due Wednesday) and actually finishing it! Yippee!

Ahem. I’m really, really close to being done the red and black sweater. I’ve got about 5 inches to go on each sleeve, but they’re just straight stockinette and then ribbing on less than 50 stitches, so I might even get it done tonight. Then I gotta get around to weaving in the ends and everything…I’m hoping to wear it to SnB on Wednesday, but I don’t know if I’ll get around to washing it (and having it be dry) by then. Perhaps just a light blocking rather than a washing.

I’ve decided to start the Monk’s travel satchel, out of Naturelle 8/8. I’m going to work at a tight gauge, and machine wash and dry the pieces before I sew up so that they’ll be maximally dense. Plus it’s something I can always take to work on during classes – 74″ of seed stitch, here I come.

Oh, I finally got around to aligning my banner with the rest of the page so it looks a little better. Changed some font colours and such while I was at it, but I’m still not sure. Things might change around here still.

knitty thoughts

Sunday, March 13th, 2005 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Is it odd that I think about knitting pretty much ALL THE TIME? I mean, seriously, it’s kind of ridiculous…I suppose that’s why I’ve got this blog, to have somewhere to put down my knitty thoughts, hm?

I’ve started working on items for the Dulaan Project, and I made a hat last night in less than 1 hour. Working on a scarf now, but of course that’s a little slower going. I’ve taken out a bunch of yarn that would otherwise have just sat in a bin, so now I’ve got these two bags of yarn that shall be made into hats, mittens, scarves (maybe) and some socks.

I found the perfect yarn for the Gibson Girl pullover – mercerized cotton from Camilla Valley Farm. It comes on the cone, so it’s cheap, and it’s got nice colours. BUT, I need to work from stash first. I’ve got soooo very many projects lined up for that I already have the yarn for, and I’m feeling kind of overwhelmed by it all. Gotta finish some projects first before I can buy more yarn – at least say, 4 new projects excluding Dulaan stuff.

I’ve been trying to think of things to make with the Naturelle 8/8 that I’ve got tons of, from Elann. I’ve got a full cone of “dark linen”, about half of a light denim, and maybe a quarter or less of oxford grey. Like Joyce said, the stuff seems to never run out. And I’m finding it kind of difficult to think of projects that I would want to use this yarn for, that wouldn’t be too heavy.

Contenders:
Janda from knitty
Tasha from knitty
Monk’s travel satchel, free from interweave
Vera tank from Mission Falls Cotton “Simple”
A skirt for my little sister (she’s been bugging me about it for awhile)

So much to knit, so little time.

EDIT: oops. I accidentally deleted the entry with the comments attached to it for the previous post (R.I.P.). I read them, though, and I just re-read them in my Haloscan account. Alexandra – I did do a final go-round where I picked up the wraps. I think the trick is that there is a difference in the way you need to pick up the wraps made on the purl side versus the knit side – where I picked them up does look a little funny, and different from each other. But it’s black and right below the bindoff, so it’s difficult to see.

weekend!

Yay! I can sleep in tomorrow!

I finally got a neckline I’m satisfied with on the red and black sweater. I dropped the front neck by doing short rows, and it’s pretty snazzy, I think.

I also cast on for some socks in the Regia Jubilee I got a while back – so good for travelling project. And I’m using the YUMMY Lantern Moon double points I bought. No ladders, yay!

Although…perhaps since it’s on double points I won’t want to just throw the project into my bag where they may break. Perhaps I need some kind of hard container for the project that isn’t too big, but will protect my precious needles…
