hibiscus revisited

Saturday, January 30th, 2010 | accessories, design, errata, knitting, musings, patterns, shawls | 5 Comments

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve deactivated the Hibiscus shawl pattern from my Ravelry store. I’ve done this so I can reknit the pattern to investigate some problems that people have been having.

YIP: January 28

I’m knitting it up in some nice merino sock yarn from Maple Creek Farm, a Rhinebeck vendor that has great yarn but I don’t think sells anywhere else! I’ve been working away at it and I’m almost done. I’m also taking this opportunity to add stitch counts throughout the pattern.

The pattern should be back up for sale very shortly. I’m also going to continue donating a portion of the sales from this pattern to Haiti relief through February. I haven’t calculated the total for the January fundraiser yet, but I know it’ll be an amazingly generous amount!

Thanks to you all for purchasing patterns and helping to donate. If you’ve had your eye on any of my patterns, you’ve still got one day to contribute a portion of the purchase price to MSF and the Red Cross.

Hope you’re keeping warm this weekend.

milkweed and adobe?

Saturday, June 27th, 2009 | design, errata, patterns | 5 Comments

I hear some people are having trouble opening the Milkweed Shawl pattern with Adobe – what kind of errors are going on? I actually used Adobe suite to create the PDF, and I use Acrobat to open it without any problems.

And if anyone has any ideas on why there might be a problem, let me know that too!

Another omission was found in the written instructions in row 94 – a missing yo, CDD, yo at the beginning and end of the row. The latest version of the pattern is available on Ravelry and is called “MilkweedShawlJune26_2_.pdf”. So sorry for any confusion!

correction: delicious knee socks

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 | design, errata, patterns | No Comments

It has come to my attention that there is a small error in the Short-Row Heel instructions. It should read:

Row 2: Purl 26 [28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38] sts. W&T.
Row 3: Knit 25 [27, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37] sts. W&T.
Row 4: Purl 24 [26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36] sts. W&T.

If you’ve knit a short row heel before, you might not even have looked at the numbers – but I’ve corrected the pattern anyway. I’ve also taken this opportunity to add an explicit note about placing the shaping outside the cable panel in the Over the Knee version of the socks.

You can download the new version through Ravelry now! If you have any problems or questions, please email me at cosmicpluto@gmail.com.

tyv sock knitting: errata

Sunday, January 11th, 2009 | errata, tyv sock knitting | No Comments

A couple of errors have come to my attention – oops! Here they are:

p. 83, under “Work the Heel”, step 3 should say:
3) Row 1 (RS): * sl 1, k1 *, rep from * to * across.

p. 84, under “Gusset”, step 1 should say:
1) Next Round: K 8 (8, 9, 9, 10, 10) sts.

These will also be posted on the Errata Page.

P.S. Trip planning is eating my brain. But my Lucy-for-the-trip is almost almost done!

it was bound to happen!

Oops. The first errata for TYV Sock Knitting has come to my attention – it’s in the Slip-Stitch Ridges socks, and it’s important if you’ve never knit socks before!

Page 142, Step 4 should read:
Row 4: Sl 1, p to 1 st before gap, p2tog, p1, turn.

I’ve put up an errata page up top in the tabs, so any other errata will go up there too (along with a note here in the main bloggy area!). I’ve also picked up on a couple of incongruous photos in the book, but nothing in an actual action-y shot yet (just a needle photo that should’ve been a different one, etc).

Here’s hoping the errata page doesn’t need to be posted on too often!

baby thermal, and one last correction

Sunday, July 6th, 2008 | design, errata, knitting, sweaters | 8 Comments

pink thermal yoke

Last week I started into yet another version of Thermal, following the little blue one I posted a photo of a few entries ago – that one’s sized for a baby, this one, for a kid (about 4 years). I’m reworking the pattern to self-publish it sized from newborn right up to a kids’ size 12. Instead of being knit in the round from the bottom up with set-in sleeves, this one’s a top down raglan – easy to knit, and easy to size!

Still knit in fingering weight – this time I’m using Nature’s Palette. It’s coming along quickly despite the small needles – I just started this one about a week or so ago. And it’s really fun – I really do love this waffle stitch pattern! Easy, but good visual impact.

pink thermal, into the body

And, well, there’s one more little correction to the B-Side pattern – the last correction that I made was mirrored again in the next row, so that is now a bit off. I’ve decided not to email out the corrected pattern automatically to everyone this time, because my email doesn’t like the volume! It’s a really easy fix, though, and of course I’ll email it to anyone that asks.

The row following the cable set-up row should read:

“Next Row [WS]: Purl to marker, slip marker, work Row 3 of Ensign’s Braid Cable over next 24 sts, slip marker, purl to end.”

The BSide3.pdf version of the file says to purl a certain number of stitches which should have been changed when I changed the cable set-up row – but basically you’re just purling across and working the panel in pattern. Pretty simple fix, and some knitters might not even have looked at the number of stitches to purl to the marker!

Again, though, if you want a new copy of the pattern, just email me at cosmicpluto@cosmicpluto.com. I’ve also posted the errata on the B-Side Ravelry page.
